Our Story: The fold and beyond

Nishith Parikh and Rajkumar Kewat were batchmates at IIT Bombay and shared a common passion for resolving problems with engineering. What started off as a partnership to Kamikaze Drones for the DRDO, home automation systems (patented) and award-winning solar lamps took a complete turn when they decided that they will resolve the issue of last mile commute in the most eco-friendly way possible.

Designing the 'magic fold' It took 5 years to develop, test and refine the iconic folding mechanism that we now know as an integral part of hornback cycles. The goal was to develop a cycle that performs like a regular cycle and still folds to go into any public transport .

SMAC that: Unlike most folding cycles, to ensure performance, Hornback neither has small wheels nor single member frame, making it one of the most complex engineering projects in the history of cycles. Our engineers resolved these issues by drafting multi planar joints with 3 degrees of movement during the folding, unlike the single plane folding mechanism for most folding cycles. We patented it as SMAC: Synchronous Mechanism for Adaptive Commuting.

Constant refinement: Hornback aims at giving people the best performance with the most compactness possible. We are constantly upgrading to give the customers better portability like folding pedals, folding handlebars, etc. and the quest doesn't stop there....We are all ears for your feedback!
